If you were in power, how would allocate Canada’s budget to fix addiction?

  • 12 Step programs?
  • Treatment centers?
  • Spiritual sanctuaries?
  • Harm-reduction?
  • What about decriminalizing all drugs like Portugal did?

I think one of the best things that America has done to fight their very own war on drugs, is placing Michael Botticelli in power to influence drug control policy decision making. He is an addict/alcoholic himself and has first hand experience on the needs of people suffering from this scary disease. What makes drug policy so challenging is that the decision makers usually have very minimal understanding of the disease of addiction, and are bombarded with information from stakeholders who are sure to benefit from the allocation of their funds,  instead of the government putting their eyes and ears on the people who have recovered(not cured) and are working on maintaining their freedom daily.
