Here is another big win for those who are struggling with mental health. Veronica Mars exposes to the world her very own life-long struggle with depression and anxiety with OffCamera.com. For those of you who can’t relate to or diminish Kristen Bell’s suffering, you might relate to a more manly man like The Boss himself. Bruce Springsteen struggled with mental health for many dark years. ‘My issues weren’t as obvious as drugs,’ says Springsteen in New Yorker profile. ‘They were quieter, [but] just as problematic’. The Boss dealt with uncontrollable thoughts of suicide for years. The common thread between the two of them is that they both got help, and continually monitor themselves regularly.
Kristen was fortunate enough to have had a mother who was well educated and experienced with mental health speak to her about her very own families history with mental health at a young age. But, that isn’t the case for many of us who may not find out about your own imbalance and suffering well into adulthood. The good news is that we live in a time where there are a plethora of options when it comes to dealing with mental health issues. My friends, you no longer need to suffer in silence anymore.
“If you do decide to go on a prescription to help yourself, understand that the world wants to shame you for that but in the medical community you would never deny a diabetic his insulin, Ever! But for some reason when someone needs a serotonin inhibitor they are immediately crazy or something. It’s a very interesting double standard that I don’t often have the ability to talk about, but I certainly feel no shame about.”
